What Is Covered on the RHIA Exam?

Compliance with Uses and Disclosures of Health Information – privacy, security, access, and regulatory compliance.

The exam contains 150 total questions (130 scored and 20 pretest questions) and is administered in a computer-based format at Pearson VUE testing centers. Candidates have 3.5 hours to complete the exam.

To sit for the RHIA exam, you must complete an HIM program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) at the bachelor’s or master’s level, or complete a CAHIIM‑approved post‑baccalaureate certificate program.
